In a hand painted portrait we can start with any photo, even taken by a friend or selfie. We can then make augmentations or changes to the photo to make it more of the way you want it . We are often asked to take off a few pounds or years. Then we hand paint it in several layers using acrylic paint. Then we reassemble the hand painted elements into a beautiful work of art. It is all art from the an artist. It can not be duplicated at this stage. It is a total one off. No AI. The final print can be printed on any photo paper of canvas. See below for an original.
